Making bread
There seems to be a consistent theme so far; the stores are practically barren and we have to learn to make everything from scratch or do without. So that 50 lbs. of flour I bought the other day? I’m going to put it to use! Still working on divvying it up to the neighbors, but I thought that wouldn’t it be nice if I also gave everyone some starter to go with it?
Years ago I have had coworkers that have shared their Starter with me. I made a few loaves of bread from it. But ultimately I would always let it die. Boo. I mean we could just go and get a loaf of bread at the store at any minute, so what was the point?
Enter into the great pandemic of 2020, and that’s the point. I would like to make some permanent changes in a few areas, not relying so much on commercial products, but going back to cooking from scratch; less processed food and more real ingredients; more often than not. We have made great progress as a family and that’s more information to share for the future. smile
So I’m about to start my starter! Most of the recipes I found take a minimum of 5-7 days. Obviously I want bread sooner than that! I want it now! But there is also something to be said about good things taking time to make. Even so, I found a compromise. This recipe states that it should be ready in just two days. I will report back! And figure out how to post some pictures as well. Still in that learning curve about how all this works wink-wink
